Follicular Unit Grafting vs. Micro/Minigrafting
I am still very much interested in having Dr Epstein do some work on my hair. Dr Epstein was kind enough to give me an estimate of # of grafts and price after I sent in photos, suggesting something around 2,000 follicular unit micrografts. But the update: I went to see Dr. XXX in NYC. He did my last transplant in 2001. He examined my head and thought I had lots of good donor areas left. He suggested 400 micrografts to fill in what I have. So. Since I love the job that Dr Epstein did for my brother, I am still inclined to come down to Miami! But I wonder what kind of fee we are talking about if Dr Epstein agrees that we are really talking about 400 to 600 micrografts. Thanks for any feedback.
The state of the art procedure is follicular unit grafting. Micro/minigrafting is no longer performed by 90 plus % of the top 20 to 30 docs in the specialty, because of several reasons: doesn’t look nearly as natural, can leave scarring in the recipient areas, and doesn’t provide near the density because these grafts cannot be placed as close together, leaving larger spaces between these 3 to 6 hair “minigrafts”- creating most likely an artificial appearance.
