Dear Dr. Epstein, I have had an eyebrow transplant procedure done by another doctor in San Diego, California. It has only been 4 1/2 months and the hairs are growing, but mostly only on my left eyebrow. Regardless, the placement of the eyebrows are higher than where it should naturally be and the shape doesn't seem to fit or "frame" my eyes to my reasonable expectations. I, of course, noticed this the day of the procedure and I didn't feel so great. My question to you is: are there any procedures or suggestions to help correct this? If there are any procedures to take out the grafts at the top part of the eyebrows that would prevent obvious scarring? I would also be interested in increasing density to where I think the eyebrows should be. The doctor who had done the procedure justified the higher placement by stating that in future years, my eyebrows would get lower and make me look younger. I am 43, asian male. I wish and dreamed that I had gone to you from the beginning. I value your input.

I really appreciate the email! I am now waiting for the eybrows to heal, fall out (unfortunately) and start regrowing. I have to tell you how friendly, professional, and buttoned up your "crew" is! Dr. Epstein has such an incredible "bedside manner" and made me feel so comfortable the entire time I was there, which was about 5 hours. I felt very at ease and not at all nervous with him, probably because of his warmth and more importantly, his obvious expert capability for performing these transplants. The way your staff works together is incredibly synchronized and I was so impressed by the manner in which they worked with one another. Which leads me to Elsa, who basically nurtured and tortured :*) me through the entire day and was amazing at answering all my questions, performing the transplant together with Dr. Epstein and once again, incredibly warm and capable. So, all of that said, we did some video taping, joking, and I even got lunch on the house…the most important thing to me, however, is looking in the mirror (which happens a bit) and seeing the most beautifully shaped and full eyebrows that are now mine! You were so very truthful in our consulation when you said Dr. Epstein is the best choice, hands down, for this procedure, and, man, were you right!!! You guys ROCK!! All is well and I'm really enjoying my new eyebrows!! Some are falling out now but it's been great to have them! Please convey to Dr. Epstein that they are beautifully shaped and I've been receiving many compliments. The best was that none of my family members even noticed the eyebrows until I reminded them that I just had them done, which speaks to the very natural line and shape that was formed by D.E. I was shocked that they didn't notice, because they were all anxious to see me with the new brows. My parents and sister indicated that the new brows look very much like my original eyebrows, which I can't remember.

I had a eyebrow transplant because I had radiation therapy and haven't had eyebrows for 10 or 11 years now. I absolutely enjoyed the technicians that worked on me – they were kind, they talked to me the entire time, I absolutely loved having lunch with them. Dr. Epstein came right in and said hello, he talked to me when I was a little groggy, he sat down and he said, "Let's put some more in." He wanted me to have the best experience that I possibly could and I'm very thankful for that. It's amazing, I think I have fuller eyebrows than I did before the procedure!

In general I lack patience, the 6 to 7 month wait was well worth the results. As promised I now have noticeable distinctive eyebrows. This surgery is a miracle! I have more hairs, a better eyebrow shape, and most of all I am so comfortable with my eyebrows that I don't constantly worry about them (are they straight, too skinny, too much makeup, non existent without makeup). My new brows look natural, feel good and I couldn't be happier.

Traveling for the surgery was easy--flights, hotel, taxis to and from the office. The staff and Dr. Epstein were pleasant, helpful, and kind despite my own insecurities and nerves. The actual procedure didn't hurt (nor did the healing) and though it did last several hours, I was very comfortable the whole time. The staff even stayed late to make sure I was completely happy with the results and to make sure my taxi came.

After a couple of days of light swelling and very light bruising (typical for me) everything went according to how the Dr said it would. The crusts fell off then my brows looked fantastic--the only bad part was that next the news hairs shed and I felt like I looked worse than before (after having a glimpse of what my new brows should look like I could hardly wait!). But just like the new hairs did what they were supposed to do, they started growing back!

At 11 months now I am so pleased with the results I can't believe I didn't do it sooner! It took me nearly two years of "thinking" about it--if you are thinking about this surgery, DO IT. I just spent the last week at the beach with family and friends and no makeup--something I would have worried about before, but thanks to my new brows I felt great and looked good too. Thank you to everyone!

I am SOOO delighted with the results of my surgery and would like you to please relay my sincere thanks to all the team at Dr. Epstein's practice.

I would like to also apologize to Dr. Epstein and Linda for my 'fussing' over the shape of my eyebrow transplants following surgery. I am getting married next year and want to my eyes to look as close to my original eyebrows as possible.

To Linda: I have taken ur advice about my scalp and am wearing my hair curly and used a conditioning treatment this morning. I had been using too many permanent hair colours on it which was why it was so red and flaky, plus the constant straightening didn't help. I also told my fiancé what I had done in Miami when he picked me up from the airport. He was quite shocked but said he thought I was beautiful either way and as long as I am happy he is happy. Hooray for love!! A special thank you to you Linda. You never once made me feel bad for being so fussy and looking in the mirror a hundred times to make sure everything was ok. I was a teenager in the 80's and tweezing your eyebrows was the thing to do. After countless years of doing this I was left with very little eyebrow hair. Looking for a quick fix I went and had permanent cosmetics done leaving me with a very hard and unnatural look. Trying to find away to fix the damage that I had done I found Dr. Epstein and Jon who truely made a difference. I was looking for a way to cover up the horrible tattoos and eyebrow hair transplant seemed like great option. Through a lot of online research and thought I made the trip to Miami for my procedure. I am starting to grow some hairs in, but more along the outer edges. These ones have been coming in for about a month and a half already because I have had to trim them twice already!! Dr. E is one of the best in the world at hair transplants. He does personal consults with his patients to tell them their options as far as hair restoration. He answers all questions and concerns that the patient may have regarding procedures. The patient is always his top priority. In my opinion, Dr. E and his staff are the best in the field. I have had the same procedures done by other doctors in the past and the experience and results do not even come close to the excellent experience I have had with Dr. E. If you want excellent results and a doctor that cares choose Dr. E. Dr. E likes to use his skills to restore the hair of victims of tragic events such as burns, accidents, and domestic violence. I am so thankful for this.

I decided to have tissue expanders placed in my scalp to get rid of scar tissue from a grease burn at the age of 2. I have had to get the same hair cut for the past 32 years. As a kid, I was made fun of about my hair. The results of how I was treated by my peers as a kid flowed over into adulthood. Prior to the procedure, I was always worried if my scars were showing. I sacrificed a lot due to my scars. I couldn't go swimming without people staring. I always had to worry about the wind messing up my hair and exposing my scars. So I decided to try to fix the situation by contacting a hair restoration doctor.

The pros to tissue expanders is the results are immediate. The hair does not lose the blood supply and is not removed from the scalp. The scalp is just moved over to cover the bald area. The downside to tissue expanders is the deformity that they cause for 2-3 months while the scalp is making new skin. I was able to cover it up with a bandana, but it depends how where the expander is placed and how large the expander is pumped up. I had the procedure done five times before and knew what to expect. With the advancement in medical devices, the expanders have external ports which make pumping them up a lot easier.

Nearly all the hairs are also growing perfectly flat, just the odd one that needs a little taming. I can't wait to see the final results.

It's Robert M, last Thursday's eyebrow patient. What a fantastic procedure! The swelling and blood around the eyes are going down and there's relatively very little pain on the scalp. Everything seems to be going wonderfully! The stitches have all disappeared and the transplanted hair is falling out as planned. I really kind of want to use a lint roller and try and get the last few hold outs off, but thats probably not a good idea. :) The redness up front is pretty much gone as well, and I have been using the rogaine daily per the post op instructions.

I've attached a couple photos from last night for your review. I have been taking a picture a day in three standard positions so I can put together a time lapse video over the course of the next 6 months to a year.

I have had to see a couple other doctors since for other things, and I mentioned to both that you performed the surgery. They not only knew who you were, but were excited to get to see your work. One even took photos of my hairline, amazed at how perfectly natural it looked. So far, money well spent!! I've gotten many positive responses from my coworkers as well. None of them knew that the technology and techniques had come this far, and commented that it was flawless. They are just as curious as I am to see it growing back in! :)

Saw you operated on my friend Jewel as well, hope that went well. She seemed rather pleased when I spoke to her today!

You are the first doctor I look forward to having to come back and see. Now I just have to find something to improve.... Hey Ed! How's that lower body lift quote? :) Not sure if there is anything wrong with my face, but I am open to suggestions. :)

Anyway, off to bed for me. Launched one new rocket today, and have a shuttle next week.

Attached are photos of Day 6 following my procedure. Of course, we won't know for sure how my brows will turn out until after the new hairs grow in, but for now, I am pretty pleased!

I also wanted to let you know how appreciative I am for the caring, concern and undivided attention I received from your staff. Linda completed the job. Bless her! I will never forget her dedication and patience in getting the job done.

Carlos too, was a blessing. He stayed with me after hours, making sure I was okay and had everything I needed (medication, water, taxi), even walked me to the bathroom and waited to make sure I made it back to the operating room. I will never forget his kindness.

I would also like to commend Mercedes (Mercy) for attending to me during the injections. I am very pain-intolerant, but Mercy held my hand and distracted me with pleasant chatter so that I made it through the worst of it without much pain at all. God holds a special place for caretakers such as her.

Of course, I cannot end this without mentioning Roxy. Her warm smile and hug when I entered the office were enough to ease my fears about going through this procedure again. She is a real gem, as I'm sure you already know.

Although this is something I never want to have to repeat, I can honestly say that your kind and caring staff helped to lessen my anxiety and they deserve the utmost praise. Thank you all for helping me through this.

The following photos are completely un-retouched, no makeup except for some brow gel to hold the hairs in place. I pray that my brows will look as good once the news hairs grow in!

Hello Ed,

I am feeling great, and my recovery has been quite smooth. I was nervous, however, when I saw the hairs coming out with the crusts, but I got out my handy dandy post-op instructions & read them over & over for reassurance that they will grow back, haha! :) A good bit of the hairs are still there, so I can see now kind of what it will look like in several months when they do grow back which is awesome. I could not be happier with the appearance because the shape suits my face perfectly. I still cannot believe how natural they look (already) and how amazing the shape of my eyebrows are. I am attaching a picture so you can see me one week post surgery. I will do the same several months from now so you can get the true "after" photo.

Now for the staff-I could not say enough how much I appreciated the comfort and ease they brought to the room, especially since I made the decision to have this surgery less than a week before having it. You have a great team of professionals who definitely made an impact in my life in a 5 hour span of time. Please thank all of them for me. And please thank the super famous Dr. Epstein for the amazing work he does (and did for me) to put smiles (and eyebrows) on people's faces!!! :) I couldn't have found a better doctor and team.

At this point, I don't think there is anything I need except maybe one additional reassuring message that these hairs will grow back. I know they will, but I just like to hear/read it one more time!

Dear Roxy,

I hope all is well with you. It is now about 6 months after my operation, and I am delighted with the results. The eyebrows grew back beautifully. And the nose, after some getting used to (primarily by myself), has claimed its natural place on my face like it has always been there in this form. At first I was very worried at how people would react to the new look, but it was interesting that only few people saw anything different, apart from thinking I was looking great. They just could not pin point what exactly had changed. I must say that now that I have the nose correction done, I realize that the somewhat unusual shape of my nose did bother me and I am happy that I had the operation.

I am contacting you because I would like to make an appointment with dr. Epstein during my next visit to Miami. I will be in town for my annual check up on February 22 and 23 and will be available to stop by in the afternoon of any of the two days. I hope it is not too short notice, but I just need a few minutes to show the results

Thank you for checking in with me. I am happy to report that my post procedure week has been complication- free! I've had absolutely no problems. The donor site is healing well; my husband and I have a very hard time even finding the site these days!! The recipient site is , I believe, "healed" - it is almost scab-free and of normal color -- the erythema has completely resolved !

Needless to say, I am very happy that I chose to come to the "Dr Epstein group" - from initial contact with you, Ed, to meeting the very classy and skillful Dr Epstein and all his "transplant goddesses" - my experience has been excellent!!

Now......the waiting begins.....can't wait to see the "finished product".........

POST Surgery - 1 wk update:

I am very well...& HAPPY with the outcome. YES, as you can see from these pictures 'actually' taken yesterday (1/27/10), things are looking great. Still have mild yellowish bruising under eyes but makeup does wonders for that...Pinkish in the brows but not noticeable UNLESS I mentioned I had the surgery. The funny part is, when we got home last Thursday, my parents & my in-laws never noticed...I didn't let family know until after the surgery. (Sometimes ignorance causes negativity)! They thought I was only going down there to 'talk' to Dr. Epstein, ha-ha.

Dr. Epstein, You and the rest of the STAFF are truly amazing, caring and talented people. I noticed everyone was so together there and as time went on during my surgery, I felt more and more comfortable. (Enjoyed staff singing 'Ring of Fire' & 'Hotel California' in my ear **accent was great**. This by far has been THE BEST doctor's appointment I have ever had.

I was nervous ONLY bc of the following: Researched through internet & booked it over the phone back in November, flew in the day of surgery all the way from Jacksonville (hahah) & finally met Dr. Epstein. First time for everything RIGHT!!! What made the decision EASY for me was this: When researching internet websites, Dr. Epstein's stood out from everyone. I loved the fact the pictures could be magnified for close-ups so You felt like YOU were actually looking at the person and NOT viewing it long-distance. Dr. Epstein's visual talent for viewing your facial structure and knowing what looks BEST for YOU is priceless! My personal experience was not uncomfortable or apprehensive. I was made to feel special...Not another number or surgery BUT as someone you truly wanted to help. Its not about the money either. I have time now for focusing MORE on what matters most: hubby, my kids and activities I had long avoided.

I will definitely keep taking pictures, journaling my experience & keeping in touch with you. I sincerely hope my progress and testimony could help someone else that feels the way I USED to feel. My heart is OVERJOYED right now bc I feel like I got my life back, silly as that sounds. I can get ready in no time flat!! I can go without makeup, as Dr. Epstein recommended a 'Southern girl' should do...I'm looking forward to the summer and continued progress....

I had my hair transplants done on January 8th, and I was just so amazed at how wonderful the experience was. I'm not saying needles to my scalp are a treat, but the kind and genuine care I received was absolutely outstanding.

I'm 25, and I've been losing my hair since I was 14. It was a secret I kept and concealed for over a decade, not even members of my family knew how bad my alopecia progressed. It's effected every area of my life.

Socially, men of my past will tell you that I have problems with intimacy and commitment. And I can't blame them for having that impression of me when I wouldn't even let them stroke my hair, shower with them, or go on vacation with them when I've been invited. The truth is, I would have LOVED to have done those things, but I couldn't because my secret would be revealed. So I have missed out on so many experiences and several potential long-term relationships as a result of my condition. It's left me rather lonely.

My hair loss has even effected my professional life. I was accepted and should have started medical school last year, but I didn't. I knew I couldn't proceed with this next huge step in my life without facing this skeleton in my closet. The last thing I wanted to worry about as a medical student is if my classmates, patients, teachers, or boyfriends can tell that I'm balding. I could have been in my second semester of medical school at this point, but I knew I needed to see Dr. Epstein first. As I told Dr. Epstein, I re-applied for the entering class of 2010, and I got accepted to Howard University, a well-respected medical school. I'm excited to start in the Fall, but quite honestly, I'm even more excited that I'll be 6 months post-op by that time!

I know this is something you all do everyday, but for me January 8th changed my life. Nothing will ever the be same, and I am so glad for that. Because of Dr. Epstein and his wonderful staff, I have been saved from a life of loneliness, secrets, and insecurities... and I can't even begin to explain how free I now feel. It's hard for me to write this without crying my eyes out, but I'm so glad to say that they are tears of happiness.

Thank you improving my life and giving me new opportunities. Dr. Epstein has literally been the answer to my prayers. I'll be sure to send photos and keep in touch....

I want to let you know how very satisfied I am with the transplantation procedure Dr. Epstein did for me. Even though my procedure was four years ago (with a follow up procedure in early 2008), I am utterly amazed EVERY DAY at how beautifully and completely my eyebrows were restored. I am relieved that I no longer think about my brows (except to trim them and admire them!). There is nothing "transplanted" looking about them; they are completely "me," and they are even better than the brows I was born with, before I over-tweezed them. I wear absolutely no makeup on my brows, because now they are JUST PERFECT.

There is no question that I was helped by the very finest specialist in the field; I am so grateful that I met Dr. Epstein and his staff! When I feel the need for any other cosmetic procedure, I will consult Dr. Epstein.

I was the guy who had a bad experience with another Dr. the other time and you recommended Dr. Epstein. Well, l had my procedure last friday (12/4/09) at his NYC office. I came away feeling really good. He is indeed a great guy. I was very impress with him and his staff. They treated me like somebody. The nurses were very helpful even the following day when l went back to wash the hair, they were just great to say the least. I have had a terrible and emotional degrading experience from my past Dr. in NJ who always like being in the media all time. The closing in the donor area is amazing. He remove the old scar and close it and it appears nothing ever happened there. My only regrets, is why l didn't go with Dr. Epstein from the beginning. if l had, l would have completely restore my hair by now. it would have only taking 2 session. l know is too early to be jumping up and saying what a wonder result? But l am very please with the entire process up to this moment.

Thank you DJ for saving me and leading me in the right direction. You could have ignore my e-mail 2 yrs ago, but God touch you to direct me. My life was so miserable l didn't think this life was a place for me anymore. I have attached the pix. before and after.

I am doing good resting at the Hampton. Under all the medication and sleepy. Just got a chance to check my e-mail. The procedure went well and everyone at the office in Miami was so nice to me and made the procedure a success.

Dr. Epstein is truly a world class doctor and I am so happy that I made this decision to work with him...and all of this was only possible because our endless e-mail conversations to work out everything.

I am going back to the office tomorrow for another hair wash and laser. Do you all have the laser therapy there at the NY office as well? I fly Saturday morning for New Jersey. Anyway, it's all a work in progress scheduled around work and life in general. Will call to set up a time in Florida and email some current pictures of my brows. The planted follicles have continued to grow and flourish...just needing some fine-tuning which we knew we would have to do. Also, would like to transplant more along the hairline as before...esp the right side!!

I think of you all often, esp whenever I get compliments form people about my eyes...they all think I had some bleph. work or something, they cannot figure it out!! They are acquaintances so I just smile and say thank you!!

I can't believe it has been over a year. It actually felt like something was missing this past Spring when I didn't plan a trip to Miami, but I really didn't need to come - my brows grew in beautifully! I'm attaching a photo of me taken on my trip to Alaska last summer. It was great to be able to travel light and worry-free with my new brows.

Based on the email updates I've received, it seems that Dr Epstein has been keeping very busy. I think of you both often and will never be able to thank you enough for all that you've done for me. I wanted to tell you all about my experience with facial hair transplants for eyebrows and beard. I am from the UK and saw Dr Epsteins website, Foundhair.com.

The website seemed very well put together and I was impressed with the before and after photos of the beard and eyebrow implants. I started to email Dr Epstein about the procedure. Unlike a lot of doctors Dr Epstein replies to all emails himself which I felt was a very big bonus. After giving the matter a lot of thought I decided to go ahead with the procedure. I was quite nervous initially about travelling to America and having the procedure but felt reassured by the professionalism of Dr Epstein and his staff.

The surgery went fine and the next day to be honest there was not really much pain. After about a week and a half the hairs started to fall out. I shaved the hairs with a beard trimmer to make it look less noticable I'd had any thing done. As I was told the hairs started to grow back after about 2 months.

I have to say initially I was skeptical as to weather this treatment would work or weather it would look a bit fake but I have to say that the result has been amazing. To this day people in England do not know i ve had anything done. Some people made comments about the fact that I had more facial hair but it looks so natural you would never guess it was a transplant. I use a beard trimmer on it and keep it quite short which I feel suits me best.

The eyebrows are also a success and with a bit of simple trimming and some eyebrow gel look really good. I cannot recommend Dr Epstein and his team enough. Since this operation I have used him for various other surgeries (like rhinoplasty and facial liposuction) and have been very happy with the results and the service provided. Even if you are feeling unsure about something having had the surgery the after care that is offered is second to none and Dr Epstein will continue to answer any questions you may have.

I would recommend him to anyone looking for this type of surgery and feel that his reputation for being the best in his field is truly justified.

I was nervous at first because they looked so weird in the first week & then I had no idea that there was even the possibility of additional healing time. I just wanted to bring everyone's attention to an amazing eyebrow reconstruction doctor, Dr. Jeffrey Epstein. I had a basal cell carcinoma removed from my left eyebrow 7 years ago. Removal of the tumor meant losing part of my eyebrow. Eyebrows may not be first on the radar when seeing someone, but when one is not there or partially missing, it's all you see. After years of being tired of "drawing in" my eyebrow with makeup, I decided to try to find the best. I was amazed with the process from start the finish. His staff functions more like a family. They put you at ease. They communicate well. They care. I had approximately 250 individual follicle grafts from the back of my head transplanted to my left eyebrow by Dr. Epstein at his New York facility. (He's established in Florida but also has a NY office.) I was given an ambien, a valium, and a local anesthetic. I went to sleep with his staff smiling at me, and I woke up a few hours later smiling at them--complete with a new eyebrow.

Even though the process isn't totally complete yet (the new hairs fall out and grow back, and I'm in a partial waiting period as some of the hairs start to grow back), I can't explain how happy I am. I've been able to leave the house without a stitch of makeup on and not feel like anyone will be looking at "what's wrong with my eyebrow." I feel free. I feel like myself again.

I am 20 years old, a junior in college, and since I was 2 ½ I had large scar that ran through my left eyebrow, which was quite noticeable. I had a scar revision done on the area a couple months back to make the scar smaller, but I was unhappy with the results and more self-conscious of the way I looked than before. A lot of my close friends and family members told me not to worry about this facial flaw, that every human being has at least one. That is true, but if there were a solution to such an uncomfortable feature, wouldn't it be worth a try?

My answer was yes, and it came in the form of Dr. Epstein. After researching eyebrow scars I learned about his procedure which would transplant hair from the back of my head into my eyebrow to reconstruct it. Being very self-conscious of my scar, I decided to invest the time and money into having the procedure done. I firmly stand behind my choice as the BEST decision I have ever made. In less than 2 hours, I regained confidence I never had in myself. Its funny how sometimes the smallest things can affect you so greatly, especially if you're young. I would like to express my sincere appreciation for providing such a FABULOUS TOP-NOTCH brow transplant surgery. After the Valium and swelling went down, I was able to get a more accurate assessment of the implant when I looked into the lighted-up magnified mirror at home. It revealed even more of your innate aesthetic and scientific capabilities. Where art meets science: that's what makes a top-notch plastic surgeon. But I knew this based on your overwhelmingly impressive background. I contacted 5 other surgeons, even one in Beverly Hills of all places, and I knew that I'd chosen the right one. The 6th time's a charm in this case. I remember checking your site half a year ago, and there was some mention of how you played the violin for years. I can't seem to find it on the site now. That drew me in even more as it shows the natural dexterity of your fingers to enhance the implantation. Didn't hurt that you're easy on the eyes, too, haha. A true Renaissance man just like my favorite artist, Leonardo da Vinci.

The staff was incredible. Everyone was very sweet and professional, and I felt very welcomed. The implanters did an excellent job, having my hand held relaxed me quite a bit, etc, etc. I stayed quiet for the most part so everyone could concentrate, but I do realize that because you've all had so much experience on this, you can all do it in your sleep ;). I joked with Roxy about coming back and getting a hotel (er, hostel) on South Beach for everyone over Christmas break. Or was I joking;-)? Maybe after I finish school and pay back Uncle Sam, haha.

The procedure was painless for the most part. When I had my brows tattooed on, that was some real pain that only a sadist would enjoy ;) I looked like Groucho Marx on crack for days and the end result wasn't that much better. However, after the implantation, on the plane ride back, I looked like a Golden Retriever (the puffy eyes) but puppy dogs are much cuter than Groucho Marx so I'll take that any day. A couple days later, it looked like I had pretty golden yellow eye shadow on and now I'm completely normal, relatively speaking ;). I admit, I was a bit shocked at first and being in the wrong state of mind, I thought my brow shape was going to stay crescent-moon shaped and not the shape I was going for. I just didn't realize they were that puffy and that was causing it. I apologize for that. I think the Florida sun fried my brain a bit (but no sunburn, at least!), oh, and hunger.

You have all exceeded my expectations (and mine were high!) for meticulously implanting each and every brow hair in the most natural angle that only Mother Nature could achieve. The hairs blend in perfectly as if my own genetic code had designed them for my particular facial structure. The only way I can really tell which ones are mine is based on the fact that I have to use hairspray to keep the real ones in place. And the ones that were obviously not there in the first place. Mainly at the base and at the tail. Most of my real hairs are slightly thinner but one can only tell under the microscope. But of course, brow hairs and head hair are different from one another in terms of thickness. Well, mine are, at least.

I noticed that on the right brow, you had designed for a few to be placed above my brow line. Not only did that add more symmetry to my face, but it opened up my eye area, adding a lift after tweezing a slight amount under the right brow. I won't need botox for a few years, jk ;). The brow hairs along the "tails" were a bit short, but now they've already grown enough to lay flat and natural (ie, don't stick out at a crazy angle that some other doctors tend to do).

With the implanted hairs, they stay in the right direction and I WAKE UP with these brows in place (given that I've slept on my back, of course). No, wait...I now wake up with a full set of nicely shaped REAL eyebrows for the first time in my life! A somewhat good analogy for what this means to me would be like having gone through life without an upper lip. Like a part of the facial bone structure is missing. It makes one realize that eyebrows are just as important as the eyes, the lips or the mouth. Otherwise, a person looks blank and expressionless and asymmetrical. Not the most attractive sight.

What amazes me the most is that this surgery occurred only a few days ago, and I'm already ecstatic with the results. Not only with the physical results but the PSYCHOLOGICAL results as well. And that's what it really comes down to. (Ok, now I'm crying, lol...which happened yesterday, too...after the Valium, puffiness and initial shock wore off, I was able to get in touch with my feelings).

What these brows have added to my life is BALANCE. Not having that anxiety and insecurity when talking to someone under the bright sunlight and them wondering why my brows are blue or partially missing. Not spending 15+/- minutes JUST on my brows alone to make them as natural looking as possible. Achieving the natural look is so high-maintenance, what an oxymoron, hehe. I commented to Roxy that this procedure would change my life. It may sound a tad bit dramatic, especially to someone who was born with full brows and takes it for granted or a person void of an aesthetically sensitive eye (or is that vanity? no, no!). But yes, this has and will be life-altering as I gain the CONFIDENCE to welcome new adventures into my life.

Here in Oregon, we love our rock climbing and camping and other very outdoorsy activities. I was always too self-conscious to engage in anything that would cause my brows to come off and would spend most of my time indoors (bar scene getting way too old). The blue eyebrows took a psychological toll more than I had realized. I'm already visualizing all the things that I want to take up like scuba diving, surfing, just being SPONTANEOUS and living a more adventurous, outdoorsy and active life. Although I must admit, not doing those things have caused me to focus more on the academic aspect of my life so that's one good thing I got out of it. Ah, and less wrinkles. Seven years down, 4 more to go. But why not both? Now I can get my studying in and dash right out the door to go swimming and throw that insecurity and vanity out the window. Just throw on my mascara and powder and go! No more 20-60 min routine! Now it's under 5 minutes, if that, to put on my "face" for class. Wow, you've helped me with my time-management skills, too and that's very important to a goal-oriented person who wants to look nice at the same time but doesn't want to spend too much time working on it. Semi-permanent lash extensions might be next, but that's it. I already spoke with a Seattle doctor about permanent ones, and he said it was a bad idea. He's also the one who recommended you and Limmer.

Anyways, this e-mail is a bit long and you are a busy doctor with a busy staff (which is a very good indication, esp for business :), and I feel like I'm writing in my diary. But this is a great way to get my point across as to how I have been feeling since the procedure. Any balding customers walking into my future pharmacy asking about Propecia or Rogaine, I would surely recommend you and your staff. I'll recommend any browless friends of mine suffering from tacky porn star-esque eyebrow makeup. Not only do they get a hair transplant surgeon but also a shrink at the same time who doesn't need to hand out the Paxil to alieviate the anxiety of having no hair ;).

Heck, I will do it on your incredibly thorough website! I authorize you to use my eyebrow pics as long as my face isn't shown. From right below my brows to my hairline is fair game. Because a picture is worth a thousand words when it comes to plastic surgery, I really would like to show everyone the incredible end results. The pics REALLY won me over and that's what it boils down to. And if you would like to publish my letter, you are more than welcome to as long as it's my initials S.P or maybe switched around to P.S. You can censor it, too (ie, take paragraphs out). I tend to be a bit tongue-in-cheek at times so if there's anything off-color, I understand. Happens when you grow up with 3 older brothers ;)

I have a webcam, but I'm not sure if it would show the brows all too clearly. But in a few months, when the masterpiece is complete, I'll send you a picture. I was thinking about coming back to S.Beach for Christmas break, but it looks like we all agreed on ringing in the New Year in Vegas. Will follow up on that. Well, I'll be back eventually and I'd love for everyone to see them in person and appreciate their hard work and what it's done for me. Once again, THANK YOU from the bottom of my happy heart! And like I had said in the operating room, "the world recommends you." I now personally know that it is true, and the only thing I regret is not having met you and the staff much much sooner...like when I was in middle school ;)

We got home safely on Wed. night. I did not go to work on Thursday or Friday and I looked pretty presentable by Saturday to go out in public. I just had a couple questions. I regret having to bother you with questions but I have been worrying about a few things all weekend and it would make me feel better to get answers from you. I can't afford to worry about things and lose more weight while I am wondering these things and waiting for regrowth. I lost 10 pounds last year probably due to stress over my eyebrows-I know it must sound ridiculous to you that that would happen over a seemingly insignificant thing, but it has been significant to me. I feel as though a big weight has been lifted off of my shoulders now that I did this transplant. But I am a worrier, and I have a few worries-so...I hope that you can take the remaining weight off of my shoulders by answering these -even though you are a busy man.

1) I have been very careful not to wash my eyebrows harshly. Can I now go over them with a sponge or cloth? I still have a lot of crusting in some areas, so I imagine I have to get it off soon. I did not want to ruin them...the paper you gave me says that I should rub gently at 5 days and I am past that point-so I think the answer is yes?

2) Do I still have to be careful about washing my hair?-I have been careful about not washing the front too much so that the shampoo does not run over my eyebrows.

I'm doing well. I really like my new eyebrow though I realize I'm still in a transition phase as some of the hairs will fall out and then regrow in a few months. I will be very happy if my new eyebrow looks like it does now. I still have some mild redness and crustiness where the new hairs were transplanted but that seems to get better each day. My wife who has been checking the scar says it looks like it is healing well. I want to thank you, Dr. Epstein and the whole staff for assisting me in this endeavor and for treating me so well at the office. I also want to add that the accommodations at the Hampton Inn were quite nice as were the people there and would recommend staying there to any of your future patients. Thanks again for everything and I will certainly keep you up to date with my progress.
